Newchild gallery is hosting the first European solo exhibition of Hong Kong-based artist Cheung Tsz Hin, titled starlight beneath the wavy leaves.
The show officially opens this Friday, December 5th, from 18:00 to 21:00, with the artist in attendance, and will remain on view until January 29th, 2026.
For this debut solo exhibition in Europe, Cheung presents a new body of work that navigates the intricate landscape of human emotion.
The series explores how memories shift, fragment, and recombine over time.
According to observers, the exhibition unfolds as a constellation of mutable moods—longing, dislocation, tenderness, and the subtle awareness of impermanence.

The works evoke dreamlike spaces that linger between the familiar and the spectral, where recollection and perception blur in ways reminiscent of light refracting through water.
Born in Hong Kong, Cheung Tsz Hin creates work that delicately captures the nuances of everyday life, intertwining tangible reality with the realm of personal memory.
His paintings often explore the cycles of growth and decay in plants, reflecting on the passage of time and the essence of being—a theme rooted in his rural upbringing.
After relocating to an urban environment for university, Cheung expanded his focus to include everyday personal experiences and the subtle play of light in his surroundings, allowing his inner reflections to surface on the canvas.

Cheung’s art conveys intimacy and emotional resonance even within somber atmospheres. Composed of meticulously thin layers of paint, his works weave together memory and the present, creating a sense of calm and cohesion.
By exploring the delicate interplay between the visible and the ephemeral, he transforms his paintings into vessels for preserving fleeting moments, capturing the small, often overlooked experiences that define life.
Cheung Tsz Hin (b. 1987, Hong Kong) earned his Master of Fine Arts from Taipei National University of the Arts in 2014.
