Seoul, South Korea — From August 29 to September 18,
vidi Gallery (9, Toegye-ro 18-gil, Seoul) presents Lee Hyoseon’s fourth solo exhibition, Still Inside—a body of work that probes the tension between autonomy and isolation in the algorithm-driven age.
In a world shaped by artificial intelligence and algorithms, individuals navigate endless decisions within seemingly customized realities.
While such personalization appears to grant autonomy and expanded experience, Lee suggests it simultaneously encloses us within self-contained, insular spaces. Still Inside visualizes this paradox, questioning whether one remains within the comfort of isolation or breaks through its boundaries.

Zoom-inism: Expanding Images, Shrinking Frames
The exhibition marks the fourth iteration of Lee’s ongoing series rooted in her signature technique, Zoom-inism.
By magnifying fragments of images and restructuring them into continuous narratives, Lee creates a striking duality: the image expands while the physical frame contracts.
This formal device becomes a metaphor for narrowing vision and psychological confinement—yet also a descent into the depths of the inner self.
Fluid Curves, Surreal Connections
The works dissolve bodies, objects, and nature into fluid, curvilinear abstractions that destabilize the constructed order of civilization.
This visual language evokes connection and circulation, proposing a surreal sense of existence that transcends fixed boundaries.
Oil paint becomes a vehicle for gradients reminiscent of East Asian brush traditions, where vital, organic linework underscores continuity and transformation.

Between Myth, Memory, and Metaphor
Figures in Still Inside resist fixed identity, instead embodying mutable possibilities.
They engage through physical sensation and non-verbal communion, evoking both mythic time and intimate personal experience.
Poetic metaphors permeate the canvases, weaving a layered narrative of identity and de-identity, stillness and departure. Through this interplay of expansion and contraction, Lee Hyoseon poses a pressing question: in a world mediated by algorithms and isolation, do we remain still inside—or do we break through the frame?
