Adriaan Marin, The Artifact, 2025 (61.5 x 81.5 cm framed);
Adriaan Marin (b. 1997, Ghent) is a Belgian painter and printmaker whose work navigates the tension between memory, transformation, and the surreal textures of the everyday.
Trained at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Antwerp, Marin began with etching—building intricate, psychologically charged worlds that fuse allegory and autobiography—before extending his language into thickly impastoed paintings where faces, foliage, and ruins seem to emerge from sedimented layers of paint.
His works evoke a state of becoming, where form and matter continuously fold into one another.
Marin’s work has been exhibited at institutions including the Plantin Moretus Museum, Museum De Reede, and the Royal Library of Belgium (KBR, Brussels), and he has received the Frans Dille and Urzua Prizes (both 2019).

Recent exhibitions include James Ensor: Inspired by Brussels (KBR, 2024) and The Wunderwall (PLUS-ONE Gallery & Sofie Van de Velde, 2023).
He is currently preparing for his first solo exhibition at Newchild in 2026. Marin lives and works in Sint-Gillis-Waas, Belgium.
